Don't travel without doing these things ✈️

Happy Thursday!

I'm still home in Chicago, enjoying time with friends and family and soaking up the start of fall here. Summer in Chicago is the best time, but it can get SUPER hot, so if you want a milder visit, September and early October are great times of year to be here.

As I work on planning some BIG upcoming trips, I want to highlight some important things I do before EVERY trip. Some of them are more important for international trips, but they are all important parts of my travel prep.

Here are six things I do before all my trips:

  1. Buy Travel Insurance: Get covered for unexpected events, like medical emergencies or trip cancellations. I recommend SafetyWing. Learn more about SafetyWing and the benefits of using them in my blog post about travel insurance. Many credit cards also include travel insurance. Personally, I get SafetyWing on top of my credit card insurance.
  2. Register On STEP (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program): US Citizens/Nationals can get government alerts for the countries they are visiting & let the nearest embassy know where you’ll be. Register here for your next international trip!
  3. Download Offline Maps: Both Google Maps and Apple Maps let you download maps to use even if you don’t have internet. This is great in countries where you may not have strong (or any) data, or on road trips and camping trips where service may go in and out.
  4. Check Your Phone Plan: Verify if your phone plan includes international coverage or consider getting a local SIM card or an international plan.
  5. Download Offline Languages: Download languages on your phone’s translation app to help with communication when you’re offline.
  6. Learn a Few Basic Phrases: Learning a few phrases in the local language like "hello," "thank you," and "excuse me" can go a long way.

I hope you can take something away from this list to make your next trip easier :)

As always, you can follow along with my current travels on Instagram and Facebook, or reply to this email if you want to chat.

Have a great weekend!

Sarah

Happy Thursday! And Happy Halloween everyone 🎃 I'll be honest, Halloween is probably my least favorite holiday. I don't like dressing up, but I do LOVE seeing other people's costumes and how creative they can be. While Halloween is spooky, you know what's scarier? Overpaying for flights! Imagine finding out you could have flown to Paris for just $99 if only you'd known about the deal! 😱 That’s where Daily Drop Pro comes in to save the day. I love Daily Drop Pro (formerly FareDrop), and I've...

We spent the day at the corn maze! Happy Thursday! I'm home in Chicago for one more week before a mini trip, and I'll be honest: I'm stumped on what to write! I was going to tell you all about the new Entry-Exit System (EES) being implemented at borders in the European Union for non-EU travelers, but the start date has been pushed back (again!). I'll send you all the details you need to know once a new date is set, but if you want to learn more now, you can read more about the delay or learn...

Happy Thursday! I hope everyone is enjoying fall (or spring, depending on where you are in the world). While it may seem early to think about it, I wanted to talk about Christmas! Christmas is my favorite holiday, and one of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is go to Christmas markets. Christmas markets originated in Europe in the 13th century in the German-speaking region (likely Germany or Austria). They are still a beloved holiday tradition today, and you can find them all...
